The Meaning of Success

Posted by JJ2 on Jan 8, 2012 in Uncategorized

Some year and a half ago I wrote about the ideas of what “Success” is to different people. For all of us as time passes, our perceptions change due to accumulated knowledge. It has always intrigued me how I can read a book that I had enjoyed maybe twoyears ago, and it is like reading a whole new book. I have always found it so worth the time. I do have a number of favorite books that I have read a number of times.   –  Anyway, I would like to re-post that original set of ideas that will probably never change.

SUCCESS – The Meaning Of

Success – Victory – Spoils – Achievements- and the list goes on. Success has different meanings to different people. I suspect about as many different meanings as the number of different people using the term. To some folks, Success is measured in terms of monies; Monetary wealth. To other folks, Success is measured in happiness and contentment. Yet, others measure this intangible thing in regard to Career Satisfaction. Of course there is the measure in regards to family. In my opinion, Success is a lot of different things all put together. Education is a high priority on my list because our individual knowledge is one thing that cannot be taken away from us. Absolutely everything else in this world can be taken away from us. What we know and the philosophies that we develop are ours, forever. The things that we know and come to believe will be part of us until we leave this world (I’m not for sure that we lose that knowledge even then). So in conclusion, here, Success is a state of mind to the individual. Each one of us will know when we have achieved this wonderful goal, in our own mind, when we get there. “Goals”, and continually changing Goals, is a whole different subject to be touched on another day.

Have an awesome day —

More Tools / Skills

Posted by JJ2 on Jan 16, 2011 in Uncategorized

Good morning to all,

“Time” waits for no one !    Just about everything else available to us is renewable, but “time” is the only resource we have at our disposal that is totally finite. The time we enjoy, waste, or utilize today will never again be available to us.

My thoughts this morning have to do with utilizing our “time” and competing in our changing social and economic times. I see now as a time to increase and improve our personal tools & skills cache. No matter who we are or what our status in our indivivual corners of the world, we should never stop learning new things. Although, this morning, my thoughts are revolving around “Job Skills”. Weather you are an entrepreneur and self employed or directly part of the job market as an employee, the more skills that we possess the more control we have on our own success.

Have an awesome day —

Five Tips to get More Done

Posted by JJ2 on Oct 10, 2010 in Uncategorized

1. Avoid interruption Try to have a specific place to work that is a secluded area. Attempt to use the voice mail on your phone during scheduled times to work on projects. When you are interrupted, keep the interruption to a minimum so as to stay focused.

2. Schedule Your Time for doing your phone calls, and for dealing with your e-mail. Always leave best times that you will be available by phone, when you are leaving voicemail. Ask for prospect to also leave best times. This will save the both of you valuable time. Review your phone messages and e-mails at scheduled intervals rather than checking them sporadicaly. Work to schedule your given office time to achieve maximum efficiency.

3. Plan stress breaks throughout the day. Making time for yourself through regular breaks! Overworking to the point fatigue and muscle tension is counterproductive all by itself. Get up to stretch, take in some fresh air, maybe even take yourself out to lunch. You could even schedule special breaks as reward for achieveing a particular milestone. Regular breaks make for better productive time while you are working.

4. Appreciate your own approach. We all have different work styles in the way we organize and tackle our tasks. Don’t lose sight of the fact that you are in your present position due to past skills learned and personal achievements. Continue to improve upon your organizational skills and to enhance your individual style. The objective should be to feel good about, and enjoy your daily chores.

5. Stick to the plan. Take care not to sabotage your own plans do to getting sidetracked. Spontaneity is important, but there is a delicate balance between it and procrastination. Make a good plan to tackle your workload, and stick with it. Being the CEO of your own company, you are the one that has full control over your own activities.

The Info World

Posted by JJ2 on Sep 22, 2010 in Uncategorized

Our information highway changes so quickly. No sooner are new technologies released and there are already people changing and adapting to the new ways to market their products. Although, I do find the varied entrepreneurial ingenuity most intriguing and impressive. Each time a new technology comes along, there are a variety of different peoples that come up with different ways to best utilize the new system. Of course each person wants you to believe that their way is the best (and they should). Absolute & total belief in oneself is one of the basic cornerstones to building success.

My thoughts today revolve around this great information techno world that we seem to be swimming in these days. We, as a society,  are most definitely totally immersed in this overwhelming craving for information. The personal computer has fueled this info industry as much as anything that I can think of. Personally, I think it is all so very wonderful. There is just about nothing that you can not find out about through searching the internet. Google became a noun for a reason. What an incredible tool for all of  the students, everywhere.

All of these incredibly fast paced changes to this info industry can flat out lead to “info overload”.  “Burnout” in any industry is a very real danger, but in this info industy I think it is even more of a danger. I think all entrepreneurs should be aware of all the changes to our information technologies, but we do not need to be  proficient at all of them ( I’m not so sure we even should be). The punch line here being, choose the medium that suits you best. We don’t need to do everything well, just a few things very well.

Get Organized

Posted by JJ2 on Apr 14, 2010 in Uncategorized

Organiztion is the first key to becoming productive. Although , it does not have to be an overwhelming mountain of work to get to this magical place. Here are a few suggestions that may help in moving toward that new organized direction.

First off, get started with the general clean-up of clutter and the everyday messes that are in the forefront of your world. Clean and organize your kitchen, garage, and front room, first. Seeing the fruits of your efforts, front and center, will give you extra incentive to clean & organize all of the rest.
- Drawer dividers in your bedroom dresser drawers as well as kitchen drawers are wonderful organizational tools. I use these in my office to separate supplies, too.
- Everything in your house should have its own place. You and your family will always know exactly where to find anything when it is put away in it’s own place.
- Designate a specific place in your house for library books and reading materials. Make a special place for your keys, purse and other related items, at the entry of your home.
- Create one basket for incoming mail, bills, receipts and letters. Everyone in your household will know where to find these important items. All of your most important documents like birth certificates, social security cards, medical insurance information, etc. need to be in one specific, safe, place.
- Discard all the stuff that is no longer needed. Old prescriptions, expired coupons, newspapers and magazines. File away the materials that you use for reference. All these steps will add up to create more space you can use for items that you do need and use.
Creating this new habit,of being organized, for you and your family will be a bit of work at first.Although, the effort will free your mind to for more important things like remembering appointments, birthdays and other important dates. Being organized is a habit that is well worth the effort required to change. Be attentive on a daily basis. A thorough cleaning on a regular schedule will pave the way toward a whole new productivity. An organized house really does free your mind.

Stressed Out

Posted by JJ2 on Dec 1, 2009 in Uncategorized

Virtually all baby boomers have one common attribute among them, and that is the stress that comes from living in this modern age. So much has changed with time and for baby boomers it is no different and argueably harder. Since those early days of youth enjoying a culture when hairstyle and rock music was seemingly the most important things in the world, that inevitable change brought reality. Like all generations before them, baby boomers had to grow up to the responsibilities of life taking over. The demands of raising a family, making a living and carving out their place in a complicated world.

Stress is created from a variety of directions. From work is probably on the top of the list for most of us. The workplace is a source of stress due to it being the place where making a living is priority with the daily demands of deadlines and schedules. On top of that, most of us have challenging people to deal with, to some extent throughout the day, which only increases the stress factor.

But stress doesn`t end when we get off work. There is the commute in the traffic and all of the other people in a big hurry to get home. Stress. Once home, the challenges of children and marriage can add to your stress levels as well. It is common to return home to find the other members of the family had a difficult day, too. It seems that the stress and anxiety just keep mounting up.

This is not the life we had envisioned in the days of our youth when our ideals and dreams ruled the world. Nobody told us that we were going to grow up to get trapped in the “Rat Race” of reality. So, the stress can build up to the point that beautiful things are not as wonderful as they should be. It can also break us down physically and lead to serious medical problems. We need to develop some strategies and coping techniques to deal with the spiral.

Here are a few tips that have been found to be helpful in limiting the stress in our lives:

. Get away from it ! An escape,if you will, to put the world back into perspective. We simply need to get away from the causes, for a while. Perhaps, just hanging ouy in a hot bathtub with some soothing music will be enough to wash away the aggrevations of the day. Look for those small windows to relax, putting aside all of the worries of the world for a little bit. Calming your mind and a bit of rest for the your system will do wonders for the anxiety level.

Get your family involved. Your spouse and children have their own stress troubles, too. Many times we don`t realize just how much of a contribution they make toward our stress levels. Hitting us with the problems of the day as soon as we clear the door. We all have our challeinges to deal with every day. No matter whether it be work, school, the grocery store, friends or family. So working together toward the common cause with a bit of compassion to just be family and love away that anxiety. Everybody becomes a winner.

Make time to take care of health. It may seem a bit strange but proper rest and diet are the most important things we need to cope with our stress. These are the areas that are vulnerable if we let the stress get the best of us. Back to basics is a good prescription. Eating well from the basic food groups; Proper rest and taking our vitamins; And of course regular exercise. It will all add up to a better worker and stronger family life as well.

Taking on stress as the enemy to your lifestyle and attacking the causes is a big step toward defeating this culprit. By taking action to control stress, you are opening the door for yourself to be better able to attack problems with the creativity and intelligence people know you for.

Website Usability/Functionality

Posted by JJ2 on Nov 22, 2009 in Uncategorized

We have become an instant everything society, generaly no one wants to wait for much of anything. I suspect that is one of the main reasons why drive-thru fast food, instant messaging, one-touch convenience and all sorts of NOW technology was invented and such very profitable enterprises today.

Surfing the Internet is very much the same. Recent studies show that Internet users become irritated when a web page takes more than 10 seconds to load; more than 15 seconds and over half of the people leave the site altogether. The average Internet user is very demanding.

A number of web designers and site developers would argue that with broadband access, download time is no longer a serious concern. Although, we need to take into consideration that only 3 in 10 users have hi-speed access. Dial-up modems still make up the greater majority of users that surf the Internet in this country. At a speed of 54 kbps or below, web pages heavy with unnecessary content quickly lose the race in competition for the user`s precious time and attention.

So, here are some tips on how to keep your website lean, clean and quick?

1. Lean & Clean.

Simplify the graphics on your website to improve the download time. Images do enhance a website`s appeal, no doubt about it, so you will find them a necessary component of your site. However, keep the images loading time under control by specifying the size attributes of your images. This will allow your user`s browser to be able to map the page layout while the images are being loaded. If large images are important to your overall impact, use a thumbnail a link to the larger picture. This allows your user to choose which images he or she may want to wait for to load.

Another nifty trick to speed up loading time is to use software that breaks up large graphic files into smaller pieces that can be put back together using a table. Software like PictureDicer (by ShoeString) or Online Image Splitter performs this task and also generates an HTML code for a table tag. Although, pay attention to reduce 256-color images to 8-bit before processing the picture.

2. Cut back on the flash introductions.

They look really nice but they use up valuable time to load. If these animated presentations make up the landing page to your website, you may lose lots of visitors (practically half) before they even see your actual website. If you find it imperative that you have a flash intro, do not forget to include an easily visible “skip” button for an option to those that do not want to wait out the extra load time.

Something else to consider may be that (I have heard tell) search engines are unable to index content on flash format. If this is how you choose to present the majority of your important information, then you may stand to lose out on a lot of traffic due to the search engines.

3. Control your page size.

Of course opinions vary on what is the ideal file size for a web page. Basically, a middle of the road figure somewhere in the vicinity of 30 to 50 KB for the total file size should do pretty well and load fairly quickly.

4. Use caution linking the pages.

Most people do not want to navigate through multi clicks and links to access the page they are searching for. When putting together your site`s organization, work towards every page having access from any point inside of 2 clicks. You may be able to get away with 3 clicks, but you risk losing the viewer.

With that in mind; work to maintain within 2 clicks access, from the homepage, to anywhere within your article. When the site grows to large so that the pages can not be reached within the two clicks, consider creating an archive. A directory for outdated pages that can be used for reference.

Utilizing a clean, quick website shows your visitors that you value their time. In return they may reciprocate by staying longer to learn what you have to share. Your company will also look better by showing efficiency.

A good clean and efficient website, with quality content geared to your target market, should be the ultimate goal for all of us.

Have an awesome day —

Individual Outlook

Posted by JJ2 on Nov 1, 2009 in Uncategorized

Some folks prefer to view the “glass” as half empty, but I prefer to view the same “glass” as half full. There has always been recession since the beginning of any sort of economy. This time around the economic challenges for so many people have simply been devestating. There is the rampant unemployment like most all of us have never seen, the breakdown of our mortgage industry (which led to the whole financial meltdown and lack of available capital for small business to operate), and the total colapse of a number of huge corporations. There are only a few folks that remember what it was like in the Great Depression. For all the rest of us it is just textbook history stuff and, fortunately for us, this is no where close to what that was like (although, I bet those that are hit the hardest and living in tents would argue otherwise). Personally, I have always called it the Economic Roller Coaster. About every 8 years we do a dip in the economic charts and this one has been a bit longer and deeper than the rest.

There is always a silver lining to everything ! Always, following recession is “growth”.

We can count on it rather like gravity. That is just the way it is ! Meantime, we just need to hang on and never give up. We live in the land of opportunity and when one thing is down, another is up. Our individual ingenuity is what makes us survive at all odds. When the going gets tough we need to pull out all of the past skills that we have learned. If we are still short of what we need to compete, it is time to learn more skills. This is one of the things that Jim Rohn has been teaching for the 21st century; More skills. It has been the entrepreneurial spirit that has made this country as great as it is, despite the odds. To learn more of skills and perhaps take on the challenges of the entrepreneurial world, follow this link.

Our Why’s

Posted by JJ2 on Sep 17, 2009 in Uncategorized

    Good morning all,

Any of us that have spent any time at all in the “Network Marketing arena”  have probably heard way too much about the importance of our “Why”.  I am not here, today, to downplay that importanceof that  but rather to attempt to clarify the individual neccesity to be clear about our reasons.  After all, we have chosen to take on this particular career of Network Marketing, Multi-Level Marketing, or Direct Sales (whichever you prefer to call it) and all of the challenges that it entails.  Those of us that posess the entrepreneurial spirit, or wish to develop it, simply thrive on a good challenge.  Although, we do need to adhere to some basic guidelines. Putting our thoughts down on paper is right up there on top of the list. There is a good reason for why we were always told in school to take lots of notes. Even if you never look at your notes again, there is something triggered in our brains from that pen & paper. The notes are better imbeded into our memories. When it comes to our “Why’s” and our “Goals” we do need to review them (or at least see them in front of us) every day.

So be specific when writing your list of “Why’s”. Do the same when you write down your goals; Be specific. Myself, I like bulleted lists because they are easy for me to pick out each item.

    – I want to increase my monthly income such that I never have to worry about enough to pay the bills.

    – I want to pay my parents monthly overheads so that they can use their monies to be “retired”.

    – I want to be able to send my son to any college he would like to go to.

You get the idea.  Do this physical pen & paper thing with your “Why’s” and also with your “Goals”.  Open your mind to let go and just have fun. The only limits that we have are imposed upon us by our own making. In reality, there are no limits.  Whatever we can perceive, we can acheive !
